She was born May 1, 1900, in Tamaroa to Stephen Douglas and Martha Irene Loucks Rice and married Josiah Harriss Manis Dec. 23, 1916, in Pinckneyville.


Her husband, two sons, two sisters, two brothers and one grandchild preceded her in death.


Survivors at her death included three sons, James of Du Quoin, Le Roy of San Angelo, Tex., and Otto of Dyer, Ind.; four daughters, Nancy Irene Ernst, Betty Lou Biggs and Wilma Eileen Brock, all of Du Quoin, and Elsie Louise Simmons of Coffeen; three brothers, Herbert Rice of Ta-maroa, Alva Rice of Swanwick and Bertie Rice of Du Quoin; three sisters, Ethel Gallmeister of Sterling Heights, Mich., Ruby Keller of Sesser and Pauline Hill of Du Quoin; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
