BEN H. MAGGARD OF MAXEY DIES
Funeral Service Held Friday At Mount Vernon
Ben H. Maggard, a resident of Lamar county since 1870, died at 6:15 Friday evening at his home near Maxey after a prolonged illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Mr. Vernon cemetery by Robert G. Cook of the Church of Christ, and the pallbearers were B. M., L. F., J. R. and M. S. Ingram, Joe Chitwood and Ingram Creed.
Born December 14, 1858, at Carrollton, Mo., he came at the age of 12 to Texas with his sister Mrs. Lafayette Ingram and a brother, L. H. Maggard who settled at Arthur City. He was married to Miss Mintie Newman in 1886, and ten children were born to them, seven surviving.
He leaves his widow, his sister, Mrs. Ellen Ingram of Roxton, and these children: Houston Maggard, Maxey; Burnie and Marvin Maggard, Paris; Mrs. Otha Rhodes and Mrs. Dan Groom of Maxey; Mrs. J. G. Self, Tioga Wells, and Mrs. B. C. Roberts, Roxton. He was for many years a member of the Church of Christ.
