Raymond C. Pocaigue, 57, died Sept. 30, 2009, at St. Elias Specialty Hospital due to complications from pneumonia. A service was held at Witzleben Legacy Funeral Home, 1707 S. He was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Yona, Guam, to Jesus and Rosario Pocaigue. He served 22 years in the U.S. Army. A proud war veteran, he retired in July 2002 here in Anchorage. For the next 10 years, he worked with the civil service at Fort Richardson, 56th Signal Battalion, until he retired from there in 2003 due to sinus cancer, which he beat in 2005. He spent his remaining years traveling and visiting his family around the world. While he was home, he loved working in his woodshop and spending time with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Pocaigue; four children and their spouses, Julie and Mark Sagatu, Raymond Jr. and LeeAnn Pocaigue, Peter and Michelle Pocaigue, and Maile Pocaigue; and his grandchildren, Malia Symone, Keanu Ray, Markus Allen, Brian John and Raylyn Michelle. His family wrote: "(We) would like to thank everyone who played a part in his life which made every moment one to remember. From all his close friends that he's made throughout the years to our ever-expanding extended family, we thank you for all you have done for us and will always hold you dear to our hearts."
