Ruby will be remembered through generations as a strong, independent, and loving Mother and Grandmother. At a tender age, Mom became a waitress/cook in restaurant-fired for throwing eggs with red spots away. She had cooked and cared for her siblings, since the age of 8 years, because of Mattie Childers- Great Grandma's illnesses. She met dad at age fourteen, and they were part of a group of friends. She gave him the ultimatum at age sixteen. They were married in 1925. Dad worked in oil field. Living at Rock Branch, Oklahoma, 100 yards from Grandma and Grandpa's Childers. Moved to Whitefield, OK bought a house, ran a grist mill and a barber shop. Dad learned to be a blacksmith on the Winn farm. Went to Michigan in 1938. To get a job in the auto industry and visit his cousin, Winn. He could not get a job.

Ruby was married to Roy Couts for over sixty years. They were partners in their auto repair shop, C&S Auto Repair, Olivehurst, Ca, until 1965. She chased parts for the repair jobs. She was tough, but loving and enjoyed going to Reno and dancing, when ever it was time to party. She was our beloved Mom and Granny. She made the best blackberry cobbler around. She left school at the 4th grade to raise her siblings, after her mom became ill. She had also gotten into fight with the richest girl in town and her friends, for making fun of her and her sisters for "those Indian girls" should not be going to her school. Even though she won, she had to leave school. She started dipping snuff at age 4, climbing up on the cabinet and sneaking it from the back of the top of the grandfather clock, where it was hidden. She and her sisters were tortured at school by the other girls for looking so Indian. She stood up to the girls by punching the riches ones. She rode in a to Oklahoma at age 4 in a covered wagon wearing a long dress and bonnet, her brother walked along side.
Her nickname was not Ruba and she didn't like her middle name. She was 5'10", blue eyes, auburn, reddish brown hair. When she was young, she and her sisters were muscular, and weighed about 180 lbs. later she weighed about 120. She died of leukemia in about 6 months. The health care system said that she would not be treated, she was too old. She was part Indian. She said that she was Choctaw and Cherokee.
