Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 22 at noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with Father Martin Schaefer officiating.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Megan Wieme, Jacob Wieme, Ellen Wieme, Eric Cowan, Chad Megard, Clint Megard, Doug Buffington, Randy Buffington, Josh Wieme, Ryan Wieme, Erin Cowan, Emily Cowan, Kris Megard, Pam Petersen, Rod Buffington and Debbie Kellas.
Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Jasper.
Mary Louise Wieme was born to Peter and Frilda Polman on Sept. 27, 1914 in Minneota on a farm. She moved with her family at age one to Marion, N.D. where she lived on a farm for the next 17 years before moving to Ghent. She then moved eight miles north of Minneota.
She married Emil Wieme in Minneota on Feb. 19, 1936. After they were married, they lived and farmed near Jasper for 22 years. They then moved into Jasper and bought a cafe and beer parlor which they operated for 7-1/2 years before Mary retired. In December 1997, Emil became a resident of Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Mary continued to reside at Sunrise Village in Jasper until May 10, 1998 when she joined Emil at Prairie View Healthcare Center. Emil preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1998. Following his death, she continued to reside at Prairie View until her death.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.
She is survived by her five children, Marlys (Ken) Susalla, McGregor; Judy (Charles) Megard, Darwin; James (Kayla) Wieme, Rochester; Jerry (Cathy) Wieme, Kenyon and Linda (Fred) Cowan, Flagstaff, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and some great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; two brothers, Andrew and Henry and one sister, Madeline.
