Alice (Sokol) Sczesny, 80, of Anderson, passed away February 9, 2010 at Countryside Manor Healthcare after a brief illness. She was born July 10, 1929 in Anderson, the daughter of Frank and Cecelia Sokol. She lived in Anderson all of her life. She retired in 1978 from Delco Remy Plant 301 after 35 years. Alice was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Polish Lodge and UAW-CIO Local #662. She is survived by her daughter, Trish (Sczesny) Knoll of Newburgh; son, Charlie (wife, Marilyn) Sczesny of Markleville; granddaughter, Katelyn Knoll; step grandchildren, Michelle (husband, Chris) Potter and Matt Howard; step great grandchildren, Jordyn Howard and Eli Howard; sister, Patricia Ketchum of Anderson; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including: three nephews, Jimmy Dickey, Michael Dolenski and David (wife, Eve) Dolenski; one niece, Anita (husband, Terry) Myers and their son, Elliott; and her beloved companion, her dog, "Buddy". She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. "Boyshic" Sczesny in 2006; three brothers, Frank, John and Peter Sokol; and nine sisters, Mary, Anna, Helen and Frances Sokol, Estella Dickey, Louise Beason, Theresa Dove, Rozella Demos and Josephine Penry. The family would like to thank the staff at Countryside Manor, including Angie, Denise, Rosie and John. A special thank you to her caregivers, Margaret Combs, Larry Boyd and Leona Thomas. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Father Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.
