Oscar Stanley Stauffer (November 26, 1886 - February 24, 1982) was founder of Stauffer Communications, headquartered in Topeka, Kansas. As a young man, Mr. Stauffer worked for William Allen White, at the Emporia Gazette. Mr. White, who recognized Oscar's talents, fired him, forcing him to complete his education, and go on to greater things. Stauffer-Flint Hall, at the University of Kansas' William Allen White School of Journalism, is named, in part, for Mr. Stauffer, along with numerous scholarships that are awarded each year by the Stauffer family. Mr. Stauffer was a decent, honest newsman who believed that honesty should be reflected in the news media. He believed that editorials belonged on the "Editorial Page," and not elsewhere in the paper. Today's news people could learn a lot from Mr. Stauffer's ethics.
