Joseph Albert Codispoti, 72, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Dale City, departed this life Sunday, July 9, 2006, to be at home with the Lord. He was born Giuseppe Umberto Maria Codispoti in 1933 in Sant' Andrea Apostolo d'Ionio, Catanzaro Province, Calabria, Italy. He immigrated with his family to the United States through Ellis Island in 1938, eventually settling in Bolivar, N.Y. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953, serving his country for 26 years and earning numerous awards and medals for exemplary service throughout his career.He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Nancy J. Codispoti of Fredericksburg; three sons, Col. Joseph M. Codispoti and his wife, Janice, of O'Fallon, Ill., John E. Codispoti and his wife, Lorie, of Milton, N.C., and Steven J. Codispoti and his wife, Pam, of Fredericksburg; a daughter, Susan E. Hawes and her husband, Andy, of Nashville, Tenn.; and brothers, Jerry, James and Robert, all of New York. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, Joshua, Amber, Steven, Jennifer, Danielle, Laura, Henry and Calvin.A viewing will be held at Mount-castle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, on Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Road, Dale City, on Monday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at noon in Quantico National Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., Suite 1100, New York, N.Y. 10016, in memory of Joseph Codispoti.
