He began his career as a standup comic appearing on the "The Ed Sullivan Show" in the 1950s. He soon became a popular figure on "The Jackie Gleason Show," "The Dean Martin Comedy Hour," and "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." As a straight performer, he also appeared on the TV series "Cheyenne," "The Good Guys," "The Courtship of Eddie's Father," plus the films "Sex Kittens Go to Hollywood" (1960) and "Norman, Is That You? (1976). He died of lung cancer at age 64 at Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, California, on August 11, 1982.
