John B. Panarese, 75, of Gray Road died Thursday in a local hospital.
He was born in Portland, a son of John and Ida Ciriello Panarese. He attended Portland schools and was a graduate of Portland High School.
Mr. Panarese served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a drywall contractor for Maria Construction Co. for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was a member and chaplain at the Smith-Wagner Post 60 of the American Legion.
Mr. Panarese enjoyed spending time at his camp at Sebago Lake Basin.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Vivian Coperthwaite Panarese; a daughter, Anne M. Panarese of Portland; a brother, Alessandro D. of Bowdoinham; and a grandson, John D. Panarese of Portland.
Visiting hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, where prayers will be said at 8:15 a.m. Monday, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Portland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
