The family moved from East Texas to Abilene Taylor Co., Texas where Avna met and soon married George Grady Leggett in 1931 at age 16. In Taylor County Charles Ray, Eddie Lee and Arah Larue were born in Abilene, Texas. Charles Ray died at birth and is buried in Taylor Co., Texas. The family moved to Austin Travis Co., in 1936 after Grady's mother Lucy died. Here in Travis County, Elizabeth, Patricia, Grady Jr, Gregory and Gary was born.
Avna lived in Travis County Texas till her death at age 48.
Avna was a very loving person that did without so others could have, especially her children. She tried all her life to walk in the Light and Grace of the Lord.
She believed deeply in the word and tried to teach her children.
We were not allowed to say bad words, if we did, out came the bar of soap and we were blowing bubbles. She said it was to wash our dirty mouth. Needless to say we did not talk bad around her the soap was terrible tasting.
Avna is Hebrew, (אבנה) and is a feminine name meaning "my father is gracious", reflecting God's grace and mercy. She did.
