Vernie Martin (Brock) Edwards was born Dec 23, 1907, north of Woodward to John Martin and Luella (Wattes) Edwards. He grew up in that area and on March 22, 1930, he was married to Opal Faye Carey in Woodward. They made their home in the Woodward area where they farmed. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Woodward.
Mr. Edwards died May 11, 1996.
He was preceded in death by his wife on May 11, 1994, a grandson, his parents, four brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Vernie and Joan Edwards and Verlin
Dean and Betty Edwards, all of Woodward; 2 dau and their husbands, Charlotte
and Wayne Freeman and Charlene and Jack Day, all of Woodward; 12
grandchildren,17 great grandchildren and other relatives.

Uncle of Vernies: Crawford and Mary Edwards: The trip to Woodward County
originated in Virginia. Crawford and Mary Edwards, a descendant of DanielBoone, piled all their possessions in a covered wagon for the trek that took them first to Kansas, then to Alva, Okla, and finaly to Woodward County in 1903.
They homesteaded near the Rock Church Cemetery, north of Woodward. They raised 4 sons, Rant who lives at Nash, Oklahoma, Dunn, who married Mary Kinney; Fay, who with his wife raised 6 children; and Sig who had four children. Crawford and Mary also had 2 daughters: Louisa, who married Charley Huyck and has 6 children and Eva who married Con Smith and had one dau, Dora Marie.
Eva later married Smith Covalt and raised 7 more children; Lester, Harold (whose nickname was Red), Merl, Edith, Sig, Kenneth and Wilma. After the death of Smith Covalt, Eva married John Behler and they lived Woodward until her death in 1961.
