Decorated veteran of WW II served 24 Feb 1941-30 Nov 1945. As a private with the Colorado National Guard, 168th Artillery Regiment, PVT Dixon completed boot camp at Camp Forrest, TN. PVT Dixon earned his officer commission and Liaison Pilot Wings at an airfield near Pittsburg, Kansas. LT Dixon transferred to the 101st Airborne Division at its inception and completed training at Tocoaa, Georgia. He was assigned to the 377th Paratroop Field Artillery Battalion. In Sept 1943 he was transported on the RMS Queen Mary to England with the entire 101st. As a volunteer Pathfinder, late in the evening of 5 June 1944 LT Dixon climbed into a C47 Skytrain troop transport plane #20 and parachuted into German-occupied Normandy. LT Dixon also saw combat during Market Garden and Battle of the Bulge. The 377th Battalion entered Germany with the 101st, and then to Berchtesgaden, Austria where LT Dixon was on VE-Day, 8 May 1945. The 377th was at Seignelay, France when deactivated 30 Nov 1945.
