Cabell was the son of Joseph W. McCallister and Annie R. Bragg. He married Lona Alice Davis. He lost his sight as a young man, but that didn't stop him from walking to church every Sunday. He never forgot a voice and would call you by name if you spoke to him. At his funeral I spoke to his wife Lonie and as I took her hand she looked at me and said, "He was a righteous man". Indeed he was.
Cabell and Lonie had no children.

JAMES CABELL McCALLISTER, 94, of Culloden, W.Va., passed away late Tuesday, May 24, 2011. "Cabell," as he was fondly known to many, was the loving husband of Lona Alice Davis McCallister. James Cabell was the son of Joseph Ward McCallister and Annie Bragg McCallister. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nellie Ruth, and brothers Lloyd, Willard, Cline, Clinton, Fred, Earl, Howard, Jeff and Donald. Surviving him is one brother, Russell "Dan" and two sisters, Dorothy and Delores, as well as numerous nephews and nieces, and a host of friends. James Cabell was a righteous man, having been saved and baptized in Hudson Creek in 1939. Although he was blind from the age of 21, Cabell was faithful to attend church and received a plaque from the Culloden United Baptist Church Sunday School for not missing a Sunday for more than 43 years. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at Allen Funeral Home with Rev. Caudill Adkins officiating. Burial will be in the Culloden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit one hour prior to the service.
