EUBANKS, Mack Robert, Age 79, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, peacefully passed away on April 24, 2006.
Mack was born in Gooding, Idaho, on August 1, 1926, to Ira and Mable Eubanks. He grew up in Gooding and graduated from Gooding High School. Mack was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II in the Philippine Campaign. Before and during the war, Mack was a boxer, winning two Golden-Glove Welter Weight Championships. In 1950, he married Patricia Lish.
Mack followed construction jobs, which included the Hanford Nuclear Plant, McNary Dam and John Day Dam. In 1953, Mack and Pat moved their family to Myrtle Creek where Mack assisted in the construction of Hanna Nickel Mine in Riddle. He continued to work for the mine as a shop foreman until his retirement tin 1985. During his years at Hanna Nickel Mine, Mack was sent to Columbia, South America, to help oversee the construction startup of the new mine.
While Mack and Pat raised their five children, he served on the South Umpqua School District Board of Directors for 12 years. Mack was instrumental in erecting the covered football bleachers at South Umpqua High School. Mack was a Past Master of Masonic Maple Lodge and the Worthy Patron of Valentine Chapter Eastern Star, of Myrtle Creek. He was a Mason for over 40 years. After Patricia, his wife of 46 years passed away in 1996, Mack met and married Ina Van Epps in 1997. She was his loving companion for 8 1/2 years.
Mack was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life. He loved gardening. Especially Golden Jubilee Corn and his abundant tomatoes, preserving and sharing his produce with many friends and family. Fishing in Alaska and a once-in-a-lifetime successful moose hunt in Northern Canada were special memories. Deer hunting and Elk hunting in Eastern Oregon was an annual must.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; brothers, Bruce and Duane Eubanks; and granddaughter, Adrienne.
He leaves his loving wife, Ina; sons, Mack T. and Karen Eubanks; Alec and Robin Eubanks; Korey and Linda Eubanks; daughters, Rebecca and Mike Cyphert; Iris and Bob Stuempges; step-sons, Wayne and Julie Van Epps; Tom and Wanda Van Epps; sister, Alice and Richard Rogers of Gooding; and his dearly loved 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of Mack's life will be held at Tri-City Baptist Church on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11 a.m., with Pastor John P. Gustafson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of MYRTLE CREEK FAMILY FUNERAL HOME (541)863-5122.
