Mr. Cope was well known throughout East Idaho when he served as manager and later district manager of a pioneer equipment and hardware company, the Consolidated Wagon and Machine Co.,
He also fulfilled several significant civic responsibilities during his business career. He served as president of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club in 1946 and 1947 and served as a member of the Board of Adjustment of the City of Idaho Falls for many years.
Mr. Cope began working for the Consolidated Wagon and Machine Co. in 1910 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He came to Idaho Falls in 1912 and became manager and then district manager of that pioneer firm until 1932.
In 1932 he was appointed manager of the Tri-State Lumber Co. here, later the Boise-Payette Lumber Co. He remained in this responsibility until his retirement in 1934.
He was born Sept. 21, 1889, at Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Francis Cope of Birmingham, England, and Ruth Howell of Halesowen, England. He received his education in Salt Lake City.
He was married to Prudence Earl Jan. 15, 1914 in Idaho Falls and the couple has resided in Idaho Falls continuously.
Survivors include the widow, a son George A. Cope, Jr., and a daughter, Mr. Margaret Ruth Johns, both of Idaho Falls. A sister, Mrs. Della Sudbury, of Salt Lake City, and six grandchildren also survive.
Mr. Cope also served prominently in activities of the Idaho Falls Rotary Club throughout his long business career here as well as with projects of the Chamber of Commerce.
