Daniel Osmun [Jr.] was the son of Daniel Osmun, who died before 1820 in Tompkins County, New York. As early as 1792, Daniel Osmun [Sr.], the father of Daniel Osmun, purchased land in Onondaga County, New York, which would later be divided up to form Cayuga County & Tompkins County. Daniel Osmun must have been at least 21 years old in 1792 to legally purchase this property, which means he had to have been born sometime BEFORE 1771 NOT in 1776.
Daniel Osmun (1801-1859) is thought to be the grandson of (Sergeant) John Osmun, who served in (Colonel) John Lamb's Continental Artillery Regiment, but proof is lacking.
The 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment, also known as Lamb's Continental Artillery Regiment, was authorized on January 1, 1777, as (Colonel) John Lamb's Continental Artillery Regiment, which took part in the Battle of Forts Clinton and Montgomery on October 06, 1777, where (Pvt.) Isaac Osman and (Pvt.) Israel Osman, were taken prisoner.
(Pvt.) Isaac Osman (1738-1778) and (Pvt.) Israel Osman (1736-1778) died of disease or starvation at the old "Sugar House Prison" in New York City, where they were being held as prisoners of war.
