MIFFLINBURG — Sarah A. Bowersox, 92, of 609 Swarey Road, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at her home. She was born on Sept. 26, 1918, in West Buffalo Township, Union County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Pearl (Beck) Hoffman. On Feb. 18, 1939, she married Paul O. Bowersox, who survives. Sarah attended Red Bank and Forest Hill schools. She had been employed at Huntingdon Throwing Mills, Mifflinburg, and retired from Sterling Bros., of Mifflinburg in 1967. She attended Salem United Methodist Church, Middleburg. Sarah enjoyed caring for her home, canning produce and was especially reknowned for her dandelion and dressing. The great joys of her life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her husband of 72 years are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Eugene R. and Irene Bowersox, of Beavertown, Kenneth A. and Judy Bowersox, of Milton, and Richard L. Bowersox, of Pleasant Grove; two daughters and one son-in-law, Edith R. Hall, of Omaha, Neb., and Ethel L. and Ronald Boob, of Mifflinburg; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Sampsell, of Penns Creek; also one brother, Ernest Hoffman and wife Rosella, of Red Bank. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Donald Bowersox; one sister, Alma Reed and two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Hoffman. Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Hummel Funeral Home, Middleburg, where the funeral will follow at 11 with Pastor Tom Adams and Pastor Bob Klingerman officiating. Burial will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery.
