Thomas A Porter was born Nov 3, 1920, in Pershing. He attended 8 years of elementary and high school in Chickasha. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1939. He graduated from Cameron Junior College, and attended Texas A&M, New Mexico A&M, and American University of Shrivenham, Shrivenham, England.

He was in the Army for 3 and ½ years during World War II. His company, 1019 Engineer Tredway Bridge Company, built 13 bridges in Europe, including two across the Rhine River for General Patton’s Army.

He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1948, with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering. While at OU, he was a member of Tau Beta Pi, an honorary engineering fraternity.

He married Cherry Ledgerwood on July 17, 1948, in Lawton. He was past president of Lawton Home Builders Assn and past president of Wichita Mountains Chapter of Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers.

He was employed as a design engineer for Tulsa waterlines from Spavinaw for 5 years. He was in business with his brothers as Porter Brothers Home Builders for 36 years.

Mr. Porter was a member of first Christian Church, where he was an elder emeritus and a Sunday School superintendent for 4 years. He sang in the choir for more than 40 years.
