The body of Chester E. Platt, the first Tippecanoe County soldier to die in action during the world war, is expected to arrive at the home of his parents at Stockwell, either tonight or tomorrow morning. They had received a telegram giving the information that the body has been shipped from Hoboken, N. J. Wednesday morning. Plans are now being made for the funeral. The body will be kept at the home of the parents until the time of the funeral, which, according to the present plans, will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the Stockwell M. E. church, with the pastor. Rev. W. K. Ingalls, in charge. Burial will be made in the Stockwell cemetery. The Chester E. Platt post of World War Veterans of this city, named in honor of the dead soldier, will take a prominent part in the funeral services. A number of Marines from Indianapolis will also be in attendance. Platt served with the 45th Co., 5th regiment

CITATION:

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Corporal Chester Erastus Platt (MCSN: 81856), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Forty-Fifth Company, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action at Chateau-Thierry, France, 6 June 1918. Killed in action, Corporal Platt gave the supreme proof of that extraordinary heroism which will serve as an example to hitherto untried troops.
