Funeral services for Bertha Schadler, age 93 of Elgin, will be 10:30am Friday, December 2, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elgin. Pastor Jerry Lee and Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Elgin.

Visitation will be Thursday, 1:00 to 7:30pm at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin and on Friday one hour prior to services at the church in Elgin. A family service will be held at 7:30pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home in Elgin.

Bertha Roesler was born on July 9, 1912 to Ludwig and Mathilda (Freisz) Roesler in Odessa, ND. She attended country school near New Leipzig, ND. She was united in marriage with Theodore Schadler on February 16, 1931 in Paradise Flats, ND where they were engaged in farming on the family farm. During the war years the family moved to Renton, Washington, where Mr. Schadler worked in the ship yards during the war effort.
The marriage was blessed with three daughters, Doris (James) Dittus, Boise, ID; Margaret (Boyd) Haugrose, Ogema, MN; and Irene (Jim) Greff, Bismarck, ND. After the war effort ended, the family moved to Elgin, ND, where they resided, while farming in the Paradise area until retiring. Mr. Schadler passed away on October 10, 1996. Bertha passed away on Tuesday evening November 29, 2005, at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin after a long illness.

Surviving family members include her daughters, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, a sister Anna McCullum, Butte, MT and a sister in law, Jeanna Roesler, Denison, TX. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, a grandson, 3 brothers and a sister.

Bertha's life centered on her family and "extended family" as she took in her nieces and nephews while they attended school in Elgin. Her home was always filled with friends and relatives. She was active in her church, loved sewing, quilting, and visiting with friends and family and was known as "Grandma" to all whom knew her. She will be remembered for her bright eyes and happy greetings to all. Her kind and loving ways will be missed by all who knew her.
