Lieutenant Hon. Francis Walter Stafford McLaren was the son of Charles Benjamin Bright McLaren, 1st Baron Aberconway and Laura Elizabeth Pochin. He married Barbara Jekyll, daughter of Colonel Sir Herbert Jekyll, ( Member of Parliament for Spalding Division, 1910-1917.)on 20 July 1911.
He died aged 31, killed in a flying accident.

Francis McLaren MP for the Spalding Division was gazetted to a Lieutenancy in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, He spent several days amongst his constituents, taking part in a recruiting campaign and, when appearing at Spalding Corn Exchange in his uniform, was given great applause. He was the youngest Liberal member of the House of Commons at the time. He is pictured in his uniform before leaving for the train to London.

McLaren, Francis Walter Stafford, The Hon., P.P., 2nd Lieut., Royal Flying Corps, 2nd son the Right Hon. The Lord Aberconway, by his wife Laura, daughter of H. W. Pochin; born London, 6 June, 1886; educated Eton, and Balliol College, Oxford, where he took an Honours degree in History; gazetted Lieut.in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve; served with the Expeditionary Force in Belgium from September 1914, where he did despatch and transport work till the fall of Antwerp; returned to England and trained with an armoured car squadron under the Royal Naval Air Service; proceeded to Gallipoli in March, 1915, being present at the landing, and later fought with the armoured cars, and also in the trenches there; went to Egypt in July; transferred to the Royal Flying Corps in January 1916, and commenced training at Brooklands; was invalided out of the Army the following December, but managed to obtain a reverse of the decision of the Medical Board; rejoined the Royal Flying Corps in June, 1917, and when completing the course of instruction for his Wings.
. The Hon F. McLaren was elected M.P. for the Spalding Division in January 1910, as a Liberal, when only 22 years of age, and entered the House of Commons as the youngest Liberal member. He was at one time Parliamentary Secretary to Mr. Lewis (now Lord) Harcourt,
