Brother William Hackett, who made the run into the Cherokee strip and established himself at Enid, Oklahoma and became charter member of the First Baptist Church, passed to his reward on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 1929. [24th is marked through and below is handwritten in pen: Dec 23 - ]

The First Baptist Church worshipped in its own home, first, at the new building, corner of Broadway and Washington. Brother Hackett played an important part in the establishment of that early day church and erecting its home.

Brother Hackett contributed liberally of money, time and energy in erecting the first church house that was built where the present building stands.

He has been a member of Brother White's Bible class from the organization, which was about twenty years ago. He was a familiar personage about the church during these years. In coversation he was always earnestly expressing his love for the church and his desire for its progress.

With the going of Brother Hackett the last member of the original church organization has passed to his reward. The church stands today without a single member of the original organization.

As we think of our church today and the wonderful progress that it has made and the unique position that it occupies in the community and the Baptist denomination of this state, we are caused to rejoice and to be glad.

Some of us have been connected with the First Church of Enid long enough to have witnessed the going of the original loyal spirits that looked into the future and visualized the needs and possibilities of this community.

May God's richest and choicest blessings attend those who may be grieved because of his going.
