The Rev. Charles Robbins, C.PP.S., 93, died at 4:30 p.m. March 25, 2006, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater, following complications of an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Sharpsburg, to Joseph and Frances Kuhl Robbins.
Survivors are two brothers, Ed, St. Henry, and Harold, San Diego, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Georgene Robbins, Dayton, and Betty Robbins, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Deceased are two brothers, Victor and Elmer; five sisters, Helen Werling, Lucy Jackson, Lillian Powell, Minnie Harris and Cleo Wapplehorst; and five brothers-in-law, Rudy Werling, Jim Jackson, Clarence Powell, Harmon Harris and Tony Wapplehorst.
He entered the Community in 1927, and was ordained on May 7, 1939. His first assignment was assistant chaplain, St. Agnes Convent, Fond du Lac, Wisc. In 1940, he started as a professor of Latin and Greek at St. Joseph's College, Rensselaer, Ind. In 1982, he retired from the college. While at the college he was a teacher, registrar, director of admissions, director of financial aid and member of board of trustees. He received the Medal of St. Gaspar award. He was active in the congregation leadership, serving in it's Senate and it's executive committee. He was a writer, researcher and historian, publishing articles and three books.
Funeral Mass is 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Center, Carthagena, the Rev. Angelo Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at the community cemetery.
Calling is 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Charles, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
