Mr. Robert M. Ringer, 80, of Hagerstown, MD, formerly of La Plata, MD, passed away on Tuesday, December 07, 2004, at the Washington County Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Julia Marie Hardin Ringer to whom he was married for over 57 years.

Born September 21, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Charles Kramer Ringer and Ada Pearl Baker Ringer of Hagerstown, and brother of the late Charles Baker Ringer.


He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, the Potomac Fish and Game Club, the Williamsport Red Man Lodge 84, American Legion Post 42, and a former member of Hawthorne Country Club and Columbia Country Club in Washington, D. C.


"Bob" graduated in 1943 from Hagerstown High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps eventually serving with distinction with the 524th Squadron, 379th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force on a B-17G in the European Theater during World War II. After the war, he began a career with the James E. Crass Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Hagerstown, MD. Promotions led him to move to Harrisburg, PA, Culpeper, VA, and La Plata, MD. During those 42 years of service, he was promoted to General Manager of the Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Capitol Heights, MD, and later Vice President of Mid Atlantic Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Silver Spring, MD prior to his retirement in 1987.


In addition to being very active in his community where he was named Citizen of the Year, he was also PTA President and Chairman of the Beautification Committee in La Plata, MD. After retirement, he enjoyed being with his family and many dear friends. He also enjoyed all sorts of outdoor activities such as boating, golf, fishing, and being with his grandsons.


He is survived by his three sons, Larry Robert Ringer and wife Judith of Shepherdstown, WV, James David Ringer of Hagerstown, MD (formerly of La Plata, MD), and Rick Alan Ringer and wife Patricia of Walkersville, MD; Two grandsons, Michael Patrick Ringer and Steven Robert Ringer of Walkersville, MD; niece Ann Louise Ringer of Hagerstown, MD; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1:00 pm at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, Maryland, with Rev. Wesley G. Scouten officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Friday, 7:00-9:00pm at the funeral home.
