Obituary article in the Carroll Free Press, Carrollton, Ohio, Thursday, September 22, 1904.

Washington Borland, aged 82 years, died Wednesday morning at his home in Center Township after a brief but severe illness from acute pneumonia. He had been suffering somewhat from a cold but had been able to be about until Tuesday night when his illness took a serious form. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Friday morning, at 10 o'clock, by Rev. Mr. Rohrbaugh. Mr. Borland was born in Harrison County July 11, 1822, but came to Carroll County while a young man. For many years he lived in Monroe Township, near Dellroy, but the last years of his life had been spent on the Champer farm about three miles south of town. In 1848, he was married to Magdalene Easterday, ten children having been born of the union. Mrs. Borland died in 1895. Three years later, Mr. Borland was married to Mrs. Lavina Gambert, who survives him. The children are Samuel J. Borland, Mrs. Mary Aldridge, John E. Borland, Martin W. Borland, of Harrison Township; Mrs. W. T. Allmon, of Bergholz; Mrs. Lydia Flora, of Wakarusa, Indiana; Mrs. Margaret Mowls, of Waynesburg; M. D. Borland, of Minerva; F. C. Borland, of Center Township; Mrs. Lucinda M. Allmon of Salineville.
