Charles & his wife Sarah homesteaded land near present-day Idaho Falls. Today that land is Tautphaus Park, which includes amusement rides, a zoo & a picnic area.

They had 5 daughters, 4 of whom are linked below. The middle daughter, Mary Bertha "Minnie" Tautphaus Henry (1875-196_), married Edward Parker Henry in 1903.

From The Idaho Register, Fri, April 6, 1906, Idaho Falls, ID, pg 4:

Another of the old and respected citizens of Idaho Falls has passed to the great beyond. The people of Idaho Falls were startled on Wednesday morning when the news was passed from one to another that C. C. Tautphaus had died at Tonopah, Nevada. Many knew he was away on some contract as had been his custom for a number of years but knew nothing of his illness.

About two months ago Mr. Tautphaus left here with his big outfit for that country. He was accompanied by his son-0in law, John Kinney, of Pocatello, who went on account of his health, thinking that a change of climate would benefit him. Leaving the railroad, they made an overland trip of 200 miles but found nothing inviting. Returning Mr. Tautphaus commenced freighting between Tonopah and other points. Mr. Kinney finding he was getting worse instead of better started for home on Saturday last, leaving Mr. Tautphaus well and doing fine. He had just made a contract for the purchase of a meat market at Manhattan, and the indications were that he would do very well.

On Sunday or Monday, he was down with pneumonia; he was taken to the hospital but in three days he passed away. Mr. Herman Kunkle who went down there a short time ago will return with the remains which will arrive either Sunday morning or evening. The funeral will take place from their home probably on Monday afternoon.

Charles C. Tautphaus was born in Germany and came to this country with his parents when he was six years of age. He went to California as soon as the railroad was completed there. He afterwards moved to Montana and came from there to Idaho Falls in 1886 and took up a large quantity of land just south of the city where he made a fine home. For the past fifteen years he has made canal and road work his specialty. The larger and more difficult the work the better it suited him. He was married in California, his wife and four daughters surviving him: one daughter having died. Those living are Mrs. E. P. Henry, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. John Kinney of Pocatello and Miss Elizabeth M. who resides at the farm. He was 64 years of age.

Since the above was in type has been learned that the remains will arrive in the city this evening and no arrangements will be made for the funeral until the arrival.
