DAVID W. BRAINARD DEAD.

David William Brainard, 1117 Exchange, who was the last survivor of the volunteer fire department of Emporia, died Sunday afternoon at 4:10 o'clock at his home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral chapel. Rev. Claude G. Large, pastor of the First Christian church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Maplewood cemetery.

Mr. Brainard was born January 1, 1955, in Hanging Rock, Ohio. He was the son of the late Henry C. and Elizabeth Brainard. Mr. Brainard moved to Lyon county in 1876 and came to Emporia on November 1, 1876. Mr. Brainard married Mary Ann Beach on April 23, 1884, in Emporia.

Mr. Brainard is survived by his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hanna, of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Mary Newlin, of Madison; Mrs. Isabell Dutton, of Payette, Idaho, and Mrs. Edna Demarry, of Joplin, Mo.; five sons, H. J. Brainard, of Seligman, Ariz.; D. W. Brainard, jr., of Americus; Clifton H. Brainard, of Patterson, Calif.; Robert E. Brainard, of Kansas City, Mo., and Ernest H. Brainard, of Kansas City; four sisters, Mrs. Dollie Riggie and Mrs. Mary Klein, both of Flora, Ill.; Mrs. Ann Lusk, of Moberly, Mo., and Mrs. Hannah Weir, of Harrisburg, Ill., and 33 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
