Born in Sycamore on June 17, 1924, he was the son of Thomas Henigan II and Lila Cornwall.
As a kid, Tom spent many hours along the Kishwaukee with his brothers and "east-ender" friends. There he developed a lifelong love of fishing.
In high school, he was the captain of the basketball and football teams. He graduated from Sycamore High School as president of his class in 1942. In 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Marion Strack. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on a rescue and hospital ship, the PCE(R)852.
Tom was an enthusiastic participant in community affairs. He was a charter member of the Post 5768 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a founding member of the Sycamore Lions Club – a member for 56 years, a past president, and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a founding member of the Sycamore History Museum.
Tom ran his own business, Henigan Plumbing & Heating, for 34 years.
Tom was a White Sox fan, and lived to see the White Sox win the World Series in 2005, a feat that has eluded another unnamed Chicago team for 103 years. Between Sox games, he always had time for another game of cribbage. Tom and Marion traveled the U.S. and the world, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Roberts; son, Nardy Henigan; daughters, Zan Henigan Lombardo and Lee Henigan Alden; and grandchildren, Todd, Flynn and Alex Henigan, Jenna Lombardo, and Anja Alden.
