Andrew Jackson Graybill was the son of Simeon Peter Graybill and his first wife Amanda Hill. He was born 29 Dec 1842 in Adams Co., IL. His mother and older sister Rachel died in 1848. Simeon moved his three children along with his brother David's four children to Kanesville (now Council Bluffs), IA, in 1848.

Andrew farmed mostly in Pottawattamie Co., IA all his life, and also farmed and lived in Washington Township, Harrison Co., IA. He was considered to be a heavy cattle feeder and specialized in Polled Durham and Shorthorn breeds. He began with native Iowa land and timber, and made many improvements including building rail fences, a house and buildings. He also used oxen to haul freight from Bellevue, IA to Denver, Co.

Andrew Graybill married in 1878 to Mary Miller (b. 1857 in Decatur Co., IA, the daughter of Abraham and Sophronia Champlain Miller).
Andrew died 27 June 1889.
