KEYSER, W.Va. — Kipp Ellifritz, 63, of Rt. 6, Knobley Road, Keyser, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 on his farm as the result of an accident.

Born on Feb. 21, 1949 in New York, N.Y., he was a son of the late Vernon and Marie (Knowles) Ellifritz. He also was preceded in death by his uncle and aunt who reared him, Leo and Margaret Ellifritz.

Mr. Ellifritz was a 1967 graduate of the former Fort Ashby High School. He was retired from the City of Keyser Police Department with 36 years of service, serving several years as chief of police. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Gulf War and was a member of the Mt. Zion Church, Knobley Road. Kipp was an avid Civil War history buff and a voracious reader. He enjoyed working on his farm and will be remembered by his family as the caregiver for several of he and his wife's family.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Donna L. (Fazenbaker) Ellifritz; his children, Jennifer L. Ellifritz of Morgantown, W.Va., Becky A. Nolder and husband Scott of New Cumberland, W.Va. and Matthew K. Ellifritz of Keyser; two sisters, Gail Ellifritz of Great Falls, Va. and Diane Hayes of Springfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Felicity P. Nolder, Zachary S. Nolder, Arlie J. Ashby and Arin E. Ashby.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Mt. Zion Church on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Eisenhour officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Centenary Cemetery, Reese's Mill, W.Va.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Mt. Zion Church, Rt. 5, Box 216, Keyser, WV 26726.
