"Emerson D. Southard, for many years a resident of East Worcester, died at his home in that village at three o'clock Monday morning from a cerebral hemorhage . . . He was the son of Hiram and Betsey Chase Southard and was born in the town of Westford on July 1, 1860. He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Elizabeth Wickham who died many years ago. On January 13, 1886, he was united in marriage to Lavina Davis who survives. Besides his widow he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Lape of Cobbleskill and Mrs. Florence Baker of Summit. The funeral will be held from his late home at 2:00 p.m. Friday with interment in the lower cemetery." (Worcester Times, January 16, 1935 edition, p. 1 col. 3)
