I've been working on my family history since 1980. Over the years, I've received much help from others, and my work here on Find A Grave is my way of paying that kindness forward.

My main focus is filling in missing information on memorials—such as dates and places of birth and death—along with connecting parents, spouses, and children. So far, I've submitted over 52,000 edits doing this.

I've noticed that about 15% to 20% of the people I find an obituary for don't have a memorial yet, most often because they have no grave marker. When that happens, I create a memorial using details from the obituary, Ancestry.com, and state records to make sure they are remembered.

• Burial Unknowns: Following Find A Grave's guidelines, I don't link to "Burial Unknown" records.
