With all of my family roots in South Carolina, and having lived away from there in England, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Walla Walla all my life, I lost touch with many relatives and any connections to my ancestors. Now, returning to South Carolina to care for my aging parents, I've a much greater sense of the reality of my ancestors, largely through visits to their grave sites and genealogical research on over three thousand relatives. To try and perpetuate their memories to future generations, I'm attempting to create as many online records of their existence as I can.

For many family members, the only lasting trace of them is a burial memorial, and Find-A-Grave allows their burial to be documented and memorialized, hopefully in perpetuity. Photographs help to maintain a record of the original and subsequent grave markers and despite our casual beliefs, stone is not forever. When fulfilling photo requests, I try to to photograph family groups when I can, and document immediate family in memorials and photographs.

I look forward to the day that virtually all grave memorials are online and can be remembered by everyone.
