I am a Reaume born in Monroe, MI. My 6th great grandparents, Hyacinthe Reaume & Agatha LaSalle, came from Quebec, Canada to Fort Detroit in 1731. It was his son, Jean Baptiste who settled his family along the River Raisin in the city of what eventually became known as Monroe. I am related to many of the old French Canadian families in Monroe to include the Duvalls, Roberts, Navarre, Suzor, Lootman, Lacelle, and Brunet.
Additional families I am related to, on my maternal side, in the Monroe, MI area: Besier, Kenyon, Kent, Jenne & Wilkerson. The Besiers came from Germany in 1851 and settled in Monroe. Although the Kenyons were in Monroe area earlier, they came to Monroe from New York City to settle in mid 1860s. The Elisha Kent family was very well-to-do in New York state. His grandson, Enos Kent, came with his family and several other families (to include the Wilkersons & Jennes) to Monroe during the Michigan Rush - from Cuyahoga County, New York in 1831 where he purchased land and settled.
