Joe Benning served as RD2 / INTEL / CIC in the US Navy, where he experienced an Atlantic Ocean storm with waves reaching 40 to 50 feet in July 1960; the accompanying photograph was captured on the signal bridge. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in August 1960 to attend Purdue University.

Over the course of 86 years, Joe has enjoyed a fulfilling life, including 63 years with his spouse. Additionally, he has pursued Find A Grave extensively, capturing more than 20,000 images of monuments at various cemeteries.
