Born Janet Bauernfeind. I was born and raised on the east end of Long Island, New York as was my husband. We moved our young family to Virginia in 1999. I began dabbling in genealogy in 1995. I have spent the majority of my research and tree building on my husband's lineage. My lineages were pretty well researched by others by the time I got started. My husband knew nothing beyond his grandparents.

The majority of my years have been traditional research and tree building.

I have use a wide variety of internet resources as well as primary source locations including; The National Archives, Th Archives at Queens Public Library, Hofstra University Special Collections; Long Island Studies Institute, Queens County Surrogate Court and others.

Most recently I have become interested in genetic genealogy, YDNA study in particular.

I am involved in several YDNA projects; two Pettit immigrants from England, Thomas Pettit and John Pettit. Also two YDNA projects for early Wood immigrants from England, Edmund Wood and Edward Wood. The Edmund Wood family came to America in the 1600's and was one of the founding families of Hempstead, Long Island, New York.

I enjoy filling in vitals stats, bios and making family connections on FAG memorials in hopes of helping fellow researchers.

I will gladly answer questions, transfer memorials when deemed appropriate and assist others.
