I'm finding genealogical research and visiting graves of family members helps me feel more connected with my roots. The research gives me a more connected, personal perspective on Ohio history, US history, and family history. My profile photo is actually that of my great-grandfather, Vatchel Norris, born in early Ashland County in 1848. He is the first Norris in my direct ancestral line to be born in Ohio.
Now I'm helping my wife's family reconnect with their ancestral roots, as I explore branches on their side of my son's family tree. My son has ancestors who settled in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Some performed military service in WW2, WW1, the American Civil War (both sides), the War of 1812, the War for American Independence, the French and Indian War, and King Philip's War.
