Hi! My name is Connie Gibbs. Most of my family is in or around Rockingham County, NC and I've always had interests in pursing my family history since a kid. Growing up I was always asking who people were and how we were related. I grew up not seeing my paternal family very much so as the years went on names & faces faded from my memory so I decided to write down what I could remember and went from there. So far I've gotten over 1500 people in my tree and many more to add! I started years ago and came to a dead end and left it for many years! But thanks to this site in 2013 and ancestry.com I have learned so much about my family. Many dead ends led me to this site where I've gained even more knowledge than I once had! I am researching the Freeman Family from stokes/forsyth County, NC(my fathers side) and the Tilley Family (mothers side)Rockingham/Surry County, NC. From this site alone I learned that my paternal Grandmother Ann Eliza "Annie" Landreth Freeman whom married my GG grandfather Meredith was Cherokee Indian...something I often wondered about. I also learned that in my previous research I went down a line that was not part of my Freeman family. I learned that she was adopted and was originally named Analiga Moody which changes things a bit. I'm however in a rut seeing as I can't figure out who Meredith or Ann's grandfathers are. Analiga Moody has me stumped but I was stoked to find on this site she was in fact Indian and had a different name! I've also become stumped with my maternal great grandfather Jess Gaston Tilley. Family members told me that he was adopted and not sure of his real parents. If anyone has information on either of these please let me know!
