My policy on memorial "Bio" edits. Updated: Nov. 25, 2025

Generally I stay with the FAG suggestions for "Bio's". Whether or not an obituary is copyrighted seems to me to be a bit of a grey area. Preferring to error on the side of caution my approach will now be - cutting and pasting an obituary and submitting it as "Bio" information WILL NOT be accepted by me - unless you have verifiable documentation giving permission to repost the obituary from the copyright owner (generally the author of the obituary). I know that is a hard ask but appreciate your understanding in this regard.

Suggested "Bio" edits not following this guideline will be rejected. Thanks for your cooperation.

The focus of a biography is memorializing the individual's life with preference to an originally written biography. We ask that those who index and memorialize the deceased from newspapers and other third party accounts do so with full respect of copyright, refrain from adding information about living people (e.g. survivors) to protect their privacy, and respond generously to the family of the deceased.
