I have been doing genealogy for more than 10 years! As a child I was told that my paternal grandmother had been adopted. It was something that was never talked about. I spent a lot of time with her in my youth and when she suddenly passed away when I was 16, I was devastated by the loss.
After my children were grown, I set out on a journey to find the missing piece of my existence. I was lucky to find her adoption record in 2015. Unbeknown to me, and my paternal family, my grandmother's maternal family was living among us! She took me to many of their homes when I was young. I have since happily connected with them and have shared lots of stories. Although my grandmothers birth certificate was illegally disposed of by one of her bio relatives, DNA shed a new light on who the mystery bio dad's family was. For eight years, I have been slowly eliminating each of the seven brothers by using my fathers and my DNA. I am now down to three of those brothers. Every day I wait for someone down the line to test.
