You are welcome to 'use' any photos I attach to the memorial.

If your Find A Grave request is in a cemetery I happen to be standing in, I'll try to fill it for you. I download all requests before I head out on a road trip with intention of stopping at particular cemeteries. If I can fill any of them, I do. I also drop GPS pins for graves in a random manner, commonly there is no request for those, but it can sure come in handy for the next volunteer or researcher.

Please add records and obituaries to your ancestors memorial. This allows me to have more names to work with. With so few accurate plot maps, this will show me maiden names etc. where they may be buried with other family.

Please do your homework before requesting photos. If possible call the recorders office in that county and get a plot #. You may find out there isn't one. We can't find a marker that isn't there. However, sometimes people are buried in plots sold to their in-laws or family with other surnames. Ask for their plot #'s too. This is a very time consuming job for volunteers. It's just a courtesy, not a requirement. The more certain you are, the faster your request will be fulfilled.

If I find myself with a little extra time in a cemetery, and I see a newer grave marker, I take a minute to see if that name is on Find A Grave. If not, I add it. If that new name is your ancestor and you want to manage that memorial, I am happy to transfer it to you.

A grave that is requested, and there is no marker, I place flowers in the designated plot and take a photo. This allows the person who requested a photo the knowledge that there isn't a marker. It is truly shocking how many graves, old and new, are unmarked. I am as certain as I can possibly be, that the correct plot is photographed.

I may add a photo, including the surrounding area, to the existing grave photo. This makes it simpler for you to find your ancestor's final resting place if you can see what other things/graves are in the vicinity. I also drop GPS pins and add their veteran status.
