I'm a hospital social worker and Find a Grave photo volunteer, currently based in Mount Isa, Queensland.
I started volunteering when our son had grown up and I suddenly found myself with more spare time on weekends than I was used to after years of also managing a basketball club.
While living in Brisbane, I fulfilled photo requests at Albany Creek Memorial Park, Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery and Crematorium, the Queensland Garden of Remembrance, Lutwyche Cemetery, Nudgee Cemetery, Nundah Cemetery and Mount Gravatt Cemetery. I had also started tackling the more than 900 outstanding requests at Toowong Cemetery when I accepted a job in Mount Isa.
On the drive from Brisbane to Mount Isa, I stopped along the way and completed requests at Longreach Cemetery.
I now focus mainly on cemeteries in North West Queensland, particularly Cloncurry. Veronica Marsh has done an extraordinary job photographing all of the graves at Mount Isa Cemetery and has uploaded her collection to Find a Grave, so I now focus my efforts elsewhere in the region.
For me, Find a Grave is about helping families and researchers connect with people and places they may not be able to visit themselves. I'm very happy to receive corrections or additional information from family members, and if I manage a memorial for someone in your family, please feel free to contact me about transferring it to a close relative.
