The value of an unmarked grave is just the same as one with a fancy headstone. The site is Findagrave not Findaheadstone. Please take a photo of any grave you can identify, regardless of the condition.

What if there isn't a gravestone to photograph?

If there isn't a gravestone to photograph, then photograph the area where the grave is located. As with photographing any grave, please include GPS whenever possible. It's also helpful to include a neighboring headstone and an overview shot around the burial so it can easily be located. Another suggestion is to mark the grave with silk flowers and then photograph the grave and surrounding area.

A group of us started in 2021 at Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery and took a photo of every grave. We then moved on to Lutwyche and other cemeteries. When doing 100s of photos a day in a lawn cemetery we don't usually take multiple photos - the aim was to get the names up and if you want a better photo please ask. There are lots of volunteers in most cemeteries I do.

I intermittently worked with Kym Hyson linking the memorial pages in The DVA Gardens of Remembrance to the related burial or interred ashes. Kym has been working on photographing, linking and uploading to DVA many of the 35,000+ plaques for Qld GOR.

Albury Council I found a lot of duplicate memorials in the wrong cemeteries and organised them to be merged to the right cemetery following the listings in the Albury online register.

Bald Hills Cemetery

I added about 600 entries that were not previously on Findagrave. I do hold a digital copy of the burial register from Qld state archives.

Caboolture and Districts Lawn Cemetery

Most burials up to mid 2026 have been entered on Findagrave.

Great Northern Garden of Remembrance

I took photos of all current memorials in GNGOR as at early Feb 2022. It is difficult to update further as there is no online record of interments.

Gungahlin and Hall Cemeteries as at mid 2023.

I added all the missing entries I can find. The cemetery office at Gungahlin is extremely helpful if you have any queries about cemeteries in ACT.

Lawnton Cemetery - has a photo for every grave identified from the online records up to mid 2022.

Lutwyche Cemetery

A group of us commenced photographing every grave in March 2022. Nearly every grave has a photo; about 12,000 memorials and many cenotaph markers were added to Findagrave.

Nundah Cemetery

I added 1,300+ entries from the BCC online data. I hold a copy of Nundah headstone transcriptions from the Qld Society of Genealogists.

Norwood Park

If the Norwood Park website says "No Memorial" it means it is not the place of final disposition for the ashes - look elsewhere or record the memorial following the Non-Cemetery Burial instructions in the Help file. Norwood Park do not keep records of where ashes go once they hand them over to family.

Pinnaroo Lawn Cemetery has a photo for nearly all known and existing memorials up to Mar 2022. Each grave usually has only 1 memorial plaque, which is updated when further interments are done. Volunteers call there regularly for photo requests.

Roma Qld -I have added the cemetery register as it was in 2020 and this has resulted in dupes that photos will probably resolve.

In all cemeteries many graves with multiple occupants have no inscription for additional interments after the original.
