Aloha my bruddahs and sistahs. I've taken an interest in the Pauoa cemeteries since I have a couple of uncles there. Growing up, my dad's side of the family used to go to Bai San in May where we would visit graves in Pauoa and Manoa. I remember one of them is near the upper third on the slope but I can't find the headstone, possibly because it is written in Chinese. If you know of anyone who is able and willing to translate, I will gladly provide photos for someone to help transcribe. Probably won't be my uncle though because I only photographed the English graves the first time I went. I also have an uncle down below the road. But.....one cemetery at a time.
Please forgive me if I mix up the names. Some of the headstones have family name first and others have it last. If I have doubts, I try to look it up on the internet but usually not possible. So search by first, last, and middle names to do a thorough search! Email me with any changes. If this is your family, I will turn the management over to you.
Unfortunately, i've only been able to get out in the late afternoon shooting into the sun. I apologize for the poor quality but please add any photos which may help others in the future.
As of 12/7/2021, I have completed photographs of all graves in the Ket on Society cemetery, and the upper lot of the Yee King Tong cemetery. All photos have not yet been uploaded.
Some headstones are being translated by Tsung Tsin Association (https://sites.google.com/site/tsungtsinhi/Tsung-Tsin-Association-Honolulu). If you can help please contact me as this is very tedious work that could take years to complete. If you know of a Chinese literate student, this could be an interesting research project in terms of history, culture, and geneology. Or if you just want to do a few, that would be much appreciated.
Ket On Society cemetery is in rough shape after 100+ years. On the top, I had to pull a lot of vines and branches to take photos. Please take a garbage bag with you whenever you go and help malama the aina. You can make a big difference as this cemetery needs all the help it can get.
