Sarah (Horn) & Hardy Powell are my 5th great-grandparents. The administrator binned matching results into color-coded categories once called the "Gold Group", of the Powell Y-DNA Project. Family Tree DNA. My kit is #8640 and the confirmed Haplogroup 'R-FT358230' of our clan is estimated to have branched about the year ~1650, middle of the 17th century, from the parent R-BY12160 [on the R-L151 limb] within the Haplotree.

Bio: My mother curated and typed-out her genealogy records. She and Richard traveled from Lubbock to TX county courthouses and libraries for records. Her paper files are my heirlooms. Circa 1999, she was gifted a home PC wherein I installed the genealogy app. Legacy - thus we began to enter basic vitals. Oh the bug, they never knew I'd thirst with fascination, catching her bug. Six-years obsessed with source records, on 16-Nov-2006 I could proudly self-publish "Our Powell Ancestors, 5th ed." [ then free, Pdf and bound, two volumes with CD.] It took a decade before I decided distribution and collaboration were the keys. 2025 began the eighth year within the open-collaboration database.

Our direct Powell lineage follows: Richard*^ (father) / Howard*^ (gf) / Lee Andrew*^ (g-gf) / Robert Jones Powell*^ (gg-gf) / WGW Powell*^ (3g-gf) / Isaac^ (4g-gf) / Hardy^ (5g-gf).

* We believe Hardy Powell deceased in Capt. Pike's District, Monroe Co., GA while decades later Sarah deceased in Griffin, Spalding Co., Georgia as a seamstress living with her unmarried daughters

• I strive at keeping things simple - when possible - our task requires fully utilizing tools and resources relevant with early 1800's and British Colonial eras. Powell genealogical research is open and available within FamilySearch.org for rigorous employment of the scientific process-of-elimination.

• There, as skillful collaborators, we reconcile both sources and relationships, attaching or detaching source records individually, adding peer reviewed rationale and logic.

• Parent-child relationship, spouse relationship, events of birth-marriage-death, land, census, probate are each a type of sourced and attached record. If in disagreement, then please collaborate, document, and move the attachment. The digitized and indexed rich dataset of the 19th century (1800-1899) and the lean dataset of the 18th century (1700-1799) are amazing resources.

• Frustrations with collaborators lacking database skills or research discipline is troublesome. Some collaborators simply drive-by; their yield is an insignificant touch and go! Uncollaborated, willy-nilly edits mean we didn't leave rational evidence of why someone's theory won out.

== WITH EXCEPTION of early 1800's & British Colonial eras ==

Find-A-Grave isn't a family tree site for linking family members and pasting/dumping source records into a bio. It bypasses the database, toolset, duplicates the repository, facilitates uncollaborated content, contradictory opinion. It would be marvelous if we recognized the value of collaboration using the Family History Library resources rather than carving off yet another private database.

I'm manager for several directly related Powell, Malone, or Hailey memorials. Other memorials also, some as a temporary custodian plus unsolicited remnants transferred directly to me because I'm distantly related.

• Do you need it? "With millions of members, there will be many overlapping family trees and it would be impossible for all members to manage their entire tree."

• Who should get it? "Memorials are transferred for relatives with these close relationships: child, spouse/partner, sibling, parent, grandchild, great-grandchild, grandparent, great-grandparent, niece/nephew, great-niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, great-aunt/uncle, or first cousin. This would include adoptive, step and in-law versions of these relationships."
