Burial Details Unknown: Find a Grave's purpose is to catalog and make available final disposition information. If burial information is unknown for an individual, Find a Grave is probably not the right place for their information.

Find a Grave has been extremely useful for my own geneology research. I have always been thankful to the volunteers who make it happen. I realized that I might be able to join in the effort to document as many graves as possible, before they are lost to the weather and years.

I find cemeteries to be a peaceful place to take a walk. As I walk among our ancestors, I reflect on what their life might have been like. Sometimes I have done further research on a particular family I come across, such as when there are more than a few deaths in the same time period, or there are interesting engravings to indicate a remarkable life, or if I find intriguing information on-line while trying to fill in their memorials. If there is one little thing that I can do to preserve the memory of their life, such as taking a picture, then it seems like a constructive and rewarding effort.

My father started researching our family tree decades ago, long before the Internet existed. Our family vacations were often spent traveling to other states, searching through cemeteries or digging through church and courthouse records. There was also the occasional challenge of sifting through microfilm records of ship logs, etc. Now we have the wealth of information on the Internet to add. I have continued extensive research to expand our tree and the trees of others.
