Honour their memory and Be Respectful to the loving obituary the family ( or often the deceased themselves had prepared ) wrote about their life & accomplishments. Don't interject, change, assume, add or omit what was painstakingly written . If the obit does not list a cemetery, don't assume cremation or put them in the nearest cemetery.

Always try to link the parents, children or siblings when creating a memorial.
