Having benefited from the hard work of volunteers all over the country when searching for ancestors, I wanted to "give something back". When searching for my own ancestors' gravestones, I always take as many photos as I have time to do of unconnected stones too - especially those that look like they are not going to be legible much longer or are about to fall over.

I have a particular fondness for the graveyard of St Nicholas, Sutton, St Helens as whilst none of my own ancestors are buried there, there are some of my husband's family. I have attended funerals inside the lovely church. I have been visiting the graveyard for a number of years as it is half way between my home town and that of my parents so I photograph some stones each time. Up until fairly recently I have been leisurely transcribing and researching the names on those stones, but recently many more people have been rapidly adding extra memorials. Lovely to see, as when I started, there were only 43 people recorded as being buried there. We are now above 2000.

There is so much information on gravestones, they are a fantastic resource.

I am hoping that I can help others find their genealogical connections just as this site has enabled me to find some of mine.
