Born in Donalsonville, Ga. Raised in Early County, Ga., in the Jakin and Howard's Mill Community. Graduated High School in Jakin, Ga., in 1958. Joined the Navy and made a 28 1/2 year career in Naval Aviation Maintenance. Married high school sweetheart (Hazel Cannon) in 1961. We had two sons, Alan and Philip. Hazel and I had 6 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren -all of which are girls.

Upon retirement from the Navy Lamar hired on as an Aviation Safety Inspector (ASI) with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Lamar served his first three years with the FAA in Little Rock, Arkansas and then transferred to the Honolulu Flight Standards District Office as an ASI. He was promoted to Supervisor of t he Operations Unit after serving about two years there. Lamar was promoted to Manager of the Office in 2008 and retired from the FAA in May 2010.

Lamar lost Hazel to Leukemia after 64 years of marriage. We enjoyed a blessed life having lived in Jacksonville, Fl., Brunswick, Ga., San Diego, Ca., Norfolk, Va., Sanford, Fl., Albany, Ga., Guam in the Mariannas Islands, Pensacola. Fl., Barbers Point, Hawaii, back to Pensacola, then back to Hawaii, then to Little Rock, Ar., and finally back to Hawaii. We enjoying traveling throughout the United States and to several countries and Island Nations. A good life for a couple South Georgia people raised on farms in SW Georgia. We were blessed.
